I’ve finally completed my last shift of 2016, giving me time to update this blog and allowing me to start thinking about 2017.
I started out this year in a low place, mostly worrying about Japanese language school and finances and such. With language school out the way, I’ve gotten a bit better in the financial department (hooray, food!), and I’ve even been picking up some side jobs here and there.
I’ve mostly been doing English-teaching up until now, but I’ve also started to dabble in freelance work, doing some content writing and such. If it’s profitable, I think I might try to look into more writing gigs (if you have any leads send them my way!).
As we move into the new year, I also have to start shifting my focus to our big move. I have some basic ideas of where I think Taku and I might move to in America, but of course it also depends on where I can get a job. I’m originally from the Northeast, so somewhere in that area might be comfortable, because it’s what I know. There also a part of me that wants to try living on the west coast, not only for its progressiveness, but for it’s proximity to Japan and concentration of Japanese businesses and so on…In the end though, it all depends on the job I get. I’m planning to begin job hunting early next year (also open to leads and suggestions!).
Last weekend, Taku and I went to Fukuoka Tower! Mostly to catch pokemon in Pokemon GO, but we also saw a lot of really gorgeous winter illuminations! The trees in the plaza in front of the tower were decked out in blue lights, and we stumbled upon a cosplay photoshoot where dozens of cosplayers were braving the cold and posing for photos among the lights.
Fukuoka Tower also had its special holiday illumination, and images of snowmen and a Christmas tree were displayed. We also went to the top of the tower where we could see a splendid night view!
I’m looking forward to a relaxing winter vacation.
